Save Savar

সাভার বাঁচাও:
As video on the river water pollution by Dhaka EPZ.

Local peoples’ voice “Even a cow can’t drink the water of river. It will die.” – Villager “We can’t take bath! Whenever we do, vulnerable to skin diseases attack us” – Local student “Earlier, all kinds of fishes were available in this river, but due to industrial waste, our business has dwindled.” – Jobless Fisherman “Numerous villages have been destroyed. Land is no longer arable and the insects have been also disappeared. We reported a number of times to the authorities but no action still has been taken.” – Bazlur Rahman/ local environment activist Report/ Narration We, the students of new media of ULAB. We were surprised after investigating Savar’s environment. Barind Tracks Savar, located nearby Dhaka, was famous for Shal forest, but now deforestation is happening by unplanned urbanization. The water bodies here are filling up, rivers are ruining. Here climate not only are changing by nature, but are polluting by the misuse and carelessness activities. People don’t feel, nature is the part of life. But environmental exploitation are dangerously happening without awareness. The two stroke vehicles have been also pushed in Savar from Dhaka ! The environment of this area is treated as orphan! After visiting ‘Bongshi River’ we were disappointed. We could not touch the polluted water. Here marginalized communities are struggling to survive. We are not against of urbanization or industrialization. But present trends are not favorable for lives. Industrial chemical pollution is increasing seriously day by day. If we can not save the water of ‘Bongshi River’ , life will be more miserable. This is the time to take actions! Flood in Bangladesh

বাংলাদেশে বন‍্যা: A video documentary on catastrophic flood of 2007 in Bangladesh. Due to river rein and flat terrain geology, flood becomes annual disaster in Bangladesh. Although it become part of Bangladesh life and environment, but some appear with catastrophic phases. Of that time the people particularly rural poor suffered lots. Among the catastrophic floods of Bangladesh occurred after independence, the flood of 2007 is one. In the year 2007, including Dhaka, almost whole country was under water. The area which never gone under flood that areas also were affected. The flood water washed away villages, towns, cattle and crops! Two thirds of the country has been effected severely!

Communication system was fully collapsed ! Affected helpless people suffered a lot. The rural poor took shelter in the embankments, schools and in shelter centers . There is an extreme scarcity of drinking water. As a result lot of people especially children has been died. People passed the day with wordless misery for three weeks.

Twenty districts including Tangail, Sirajganj, Shunamganj, Manikganj, Kurigram and Jamalpur were worstly affected. Various epidemics and waterborne diseases including cholera and diarrhea will spread after flood water reduce. Hatil Village

হাতিল একটি গ্রামের নাম: To visualize the socio-economic condition of rural Bangladesh, we have visited a village named, “Hatil” which is situated 140 km far from Dhaka whereas ten km far from Muktagacha of Mymensing district. It is an agro based like other village of Bangladesh but the majority are landless and marginalized. In the high market price the farmers’ and grameem people’s suffering are increasing.

Though global development is running fast, but still rural development in Bangladesh are slow. There is no hospital and high school. Although there is “Pollii Biddut” that is rural electric connection , but Hatil severely has been effected by load-shading.

The village Hatil is adjacent to Madhupur forest. Green Forest environment is here prominent. But due to lack of environmental consciousness of villagers, the forest is now going to perish. Most of the villagers don’t know the result of environmental imbalances which occurred by forest destruction.

In Hatil, NGO activities particularly, the micro credit programs are prominent active rather than other development activities. Though the micro entrepreneurs are benefited by the micro credit programs, but there is objections about highest rate of interest and strong condition for installment.

The villagers are open and public minded. The rural hookers regularly sale products by solder-caring shop.

Making a good road from village to city is long time demand of villagers. Peoples are not satisfied by the local government activities. But peoples are happy to enjoy Boiati song.
