Cyclone Aila, one of the strongest climate-related tropical cyclones to strike the region, caused widespread devastation in Bangladesh and India. On 27 May 2009, the powerful storm surge and flooding claimed more than 330 lives, left at least 8,208 people missing, and displaced around 1 million people, leaving them homeless.

Voice of SIDR Victims
The catastrophic Cyclone SIDR struck the coastal districts of Khulna and Barisal, Bangladesh, on 15 November 2007. The cyclone generated storm surges and powerful winds reaching speeds of up to 180 km/h, devastating Heron Point, Khepupara, Dublarchar, and many coastal areas adjacent to the Sundarbans. Thousands of people lost their lives, while countless homes, crops, and livelihoods were destroyed. Cyclone SIDR remains one of the most devastating climate-related disasters in Bangladesh, highlighting the severe impacts of climate change on vulnerable coastal communities.
