On 15 November 2007, Cyclone Sidr devastated the coastal districts of Khulna and Barisal in Bangladesh. The powerful storm generated massive tidal surges and winds of up to 180 km/h, striking Hiron Point, Kuakata (Khepupara), Dublar Char, and the coastal regions surrounding the Sundarbans.

The cyclone claimed thousands of lives, displaced countless families, and destroyed homes, crops, and livelihoods across vast coastal areas. Cyclone Sidr remains one of Bangladesh’s deadliest natural disasters and highlighted the country’s growing vulnerability to extreme weather events associated with climate change.
